A slice of life update.
Life. This week was my daughter’s birthday! She is 7 now, which boggles my mind. It’s odd, I cannot remember life before 2017. We took her to the zoo the day before her birthday, as she loves animals. It was a wonderful experience. The weather was slightly overcast, so it was cool for a late June day. They had a lot of neurodivergent friendly features, like quiet rooms and headphone zones which I thought was super cool. I also got a kick out of the signage, which was humorous, the organization by region and how they wove in cultural elements into the area, like a Catholic Shrine in South America, Australian slang in the Wallaby Xing instructions, and the Tibetan Prayer Flags. I adored all the animals ^_^ I especially loved the prairie dogs, capybara, and giraffes! Oh, and the peacocks haha. I think they flirt by shaking their tail feathers aggressively? Is it a form of avian twerking? Note to self: research this peacock thing 😛
Energy. I feel I’m getting worse. I keep dragging myself and don’t want to do anything. Usually, I can clean every day with no issues, but lately, I get upset at how much time is put into it and how little it lasts. Work has been more demanding too. I feel like I’ve been neglecting my friendships because I lack the headspace to socialize more. I do let my friends know though because I don’t want them to worry. I hope that means that I am growing and am more capable of asking for space while not alienating my friends by going MIA with no explanation.
Books. I read two this week: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, and The Stranger by Camus. The former was nice but a touch overhyped. Like I thought it would be cozier but it had some very upsetting parts and it got fairly preachy. I adored the characters though. I thought Linus and Arthur’s little philosophical argument was adorable as heck. As for The Stranger, I loved it! So much food for thought packed in such a slim tome. I had a wonderful discussion with AI about the book and am looking forward to talking about it with a friend who mentioned that they had read it.
Movies. I watched 3 Ghibli films since my last posting!
- Ocean Waves: One of my bottom Ghibli films and a reminder that teens are unrelatable to my old ass self
- My Neighbors the Yamadas: A quirky slice-of-life, It’s not life-changing but charming and I would love to watch it again
- Earwig and the Witch: Not as bad as the Internet said? A touch rough with the 3D and I feel it had some major pacing issues, but it was funny and I have become a lifelong fan of Mandrake.
Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.
