It's been a while since I sat down to write. Lately it's been a whirlwind of building websites, work, the beginning of my daughter's school year. It's been exciting though. I hadn't coded in close to a decade. I was a front-end developer in a another life, before switching to design. But even had I continued doing code work, the world I used to inhabit changed. Frameworks are the main way to work which streamline building apps, but I always preferred the tangible. And hand coding is as tangible as creating a digital space can be. When I add a tag and I style it, it appears on the page as it did since the times when the HTML and CSS specs were developed.

So overall, it's an exciting time for me. I do feel tired in the past few days though. My daughter has been doing ok in school, but this is her first year in general ed. We made an attempt to let her try it in kindergarten but it was a disaster. I've been nervous about this because my little one is wonderful, and a fast learner; but she also is in her own orbit. She truly does not care what others think. Which sounds refreshing, but I still worry that she will alienate herself from her peers. A 2-3 year development delay won't matter when she's an adult, but now it's very obvious and I often fret for her. Today was a bad day for her and we had to pick her up from school. I just hope I'm doing the best for her. I feel I need to advocate for her better. I keep trusting that her school will consider the ADA law to its fullest and provide her the education she needs, but I have lately seen headlines that repot nightmarish scenarios of schools that don't have the resources. Schools that throw the kids in a corner and hope nothing goes awry.

So yeah, I'm just trying to talk to her and check what bothered her, while communicating that one needs to use more productive ways to communicate how we feel. She has that funny quirks kids have of seeming to ignore one while taking in every word. I hope I got through to her.
