1. There is something about cherries in season that is absolutely magical. They taste sweeter, yes. But it’s something beyond simple sweetness. There’s a subtle spicy, aromatic quality to them that makes me excited when July rolls around and I get to experience them again.
  2. I do confess though that I miss figs. I used to get the black mission ones on BOGO every August when I lived in Florida and they tasted like honey to me. I remember loving the little seeds. The texture of them was always pleasing.
  3. I was looking at the current version of the app I'm redesigning and it threw an AJAX error and boy was I shocked because I cannot remember the last time I saw AJAX being referred to in ANY context.
  4. I got a small (9.5"), carbon steel wok last week and I really really love it. I don't stir fry huge portions and this just feels a lot more manageable than getting out my standard size wok. So far I've made a few stir fries, used it to deep fry popcorn chicken and egg rolls, make bacon, etc. I'm super happy with it.
  5. Last Saturday, I finally took two mason jars to start fermenting again. One jar is a burgeoning sourdough starter, and the other will be a ginger bug to make soda. The sourdough is already showing signs of life less than 48 hours in! I always joke my kitchen is probably more infused with yeast particles than average because of the sheer amount of bread I make. Plus, it's summer, and I'm not a big AC person, so my home is usually 78-80F during the day (unless my family is home, they hate the warmth and I demur since being hot sucks and just bundle up in a blanket). But I figured my home's warmth probably accelerates things when it comes to dough and yeast.
  6. Brud is doing super well! I've never had a cat, much less a kitten, so it's been a whole new world for me to see his little personality. When he's sleepy, he gets extra cuddly and likes to be stroked between his cute little eyes. He often spends time napping on one of our laps. But after he wakes up and eats, he gets into what I call his apex predator mode. Making himself bigger, parkour moves, tackling tiny plushies before carrying them to his little tent house thingie (he already obliterated the pompom dangling from tent house thingie). He's due this week for vaccine round 2. It's only been about a month and a half, but it feels like he's always been here.
  7. I started watching some anime to use my Crunchyroll subscription. One is called My Roommate is a Cat (the protagonist is actually super relatable to me haha and I'm enjoying seeing him open up to others) and OddTaxi. Both are really good so far. I especially am enjoying OddTaxi because it's a mystery, has a unique art style, and a cool intro song. The anthropomorphic animals and the mix of cute and gritty vibes remind me a bit of a comic I read a few years ago called Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.
  8. Current Obsessions: Puerh Coffee tea, reading books and watching videos about gardening. Trying new recipes. Blue Bell Chocolate Lava Cake Ice Cream (especially with a slice of red velvet cake)
Anyone who is wasteful with ingredients won't improve. Vegetables, beef, pork, fish they were all once living things. Humans have forced them to yield to our convenience. That is, we rob them of their lives. We need to show our gratitude by not wasting anything. And the producers farmers, fishers, ranchers are all working so hard. If we're truly thankful for their labour, then we can't be careless with the fruits of it?
