- It was a bit of a crazy month. My company had a a reduction again, and it was really traumatizing. I don't say that word lightly. I kept waiting for my meeting invite to come in, especially when I noticed that my boss quietly canceled or let lapse our 1:1 (still don't know why but I heard I might get re-transferred back to Product so who knows). I FINALLY transferred my FL license to MS (note to self, transfer license first, THEN switch the car insurance to the new state if I don't want a dang sanction). I had to get some routine medical tests done (all clear, yay!). I also had some extra meetings for my daughter's IEP. She's in the same exact classroom as last year, so I think that settled her nerves. It was all overwhelming back-to-back, so I ended up needing a lot more quiet time than usual. I think things are finally settled, so I've been enjoying little things at home without feeling anxious about the bigger to-do items and events.
- Lately, after I exercise, I brew this tea blend and it's delicious! For 12oz(350 ml) mug steep .5 tsp (or 1tsp for a stronger tea) each of dried ginger, oat straw (might not be good for people with hay fever), and lemon verbena with boiling water for 15 minutes.
- I recently acquired a radio with a tape deck and am loving it! I had collected a few game OSTs and love brewing a cup of coffee in the morning, playing a tape, and drinking the coffee while I read.
- Youtube has decided that it is time I were exposed to Bob Ross' female guests on The Joy of Painting and this is one actual algorithm thing I wholeheartedly support! Season 4 Episode 4 (the sawblade) and Season 5 Episode 6 (ocean sunrise) were standouts and I added a few more on my list. There is one thumbnail in particular that makes me giggle because Mr. Ross is SMIRKING next to the pretty lady guest. I have no doubts that he was a super loyal and amazing spouse, but it was definitely a case of perfectly selected frame.
- It was through this rabbit hole I discovered the story of Bob Ross and Annette Kowalski. Gawd, it's like nice people are magnets to asshats.
- I hate to admit this, but I have been absolutely guilty of leaving books with titles I know will provoke my mother in law on the coffee table ๐ Some standout displays have been: Toxic Positivity, Capitalism Realism, Capitalism and the Death Drive, Hyperpolitics, and On The Pleasure Principle In Culture: Illusions Without Owners.
- I was watching a video the other day and in the interview, a gentleman asked a financier what she would do if she were in a BBQ party on any given Saturday, and a fellow guest said "I'm up to my eyeballs in cash, what should I do with all that cash?" I seriously clutched my (imaginary) pearls and exclaimed... "who in the cinnamon toast f*!@ has THAT problem!?!?!"
- Current Obsessions: tinkering with my chocolate chip cookie recipe, listening to the Coffee Talk OST on tape. Videos of Japanese bakeries. Waking up a bit earlier to bake, drink coffee, and have quiet time (might have been inspired by the aforementioned videos of Japanese bakers)
Wars and conflicts are made possible by a view of the world in which only the large is visible: the march of history, the destiny of humankind, the fates of nations. In such a perspective, the loss of a thousand or so lives, the destruction of a town or two, are of small consequence. When we see that all that matters can be found in a single home, a single life, war and destruction becomes unconscionable. One cup of coffee left undrunk because the soldier did not return home is enough to expose the hollowness of the grandiose narratives of conquerors.
